Aggregates

Progress Engineering’s automation expertise extends to multiple applications in the manufacturing of quality aggregates for use in highway and other infrastructure projects.

Aggregate uses determine required particle size, from powders to baseball sized chunks. Proper crushing, grinding, screening and washing of minerals is critical to their intended function. An effective control system should include feedback loops for granular size and consistency, while simultaneously minimizing power use wherever possible.

Examples of controlled applications include:

  • Primary and secondary crusher controls, including automated sequential start. Control of the crusher in-feed rate is based on bin level and motor load;
  • Tunnel feeder controls, based on bin level and motor load;
  • Discharge rate control to product bins;
  • Control of motors and auxiliary equipment including conveyors, screens, grinders, rotary processors, etc.;
  • Monitoring and alarming of critical processes, including bin levels, oil temperatures, motor loads, etc.

SCADA systems using non-proprietary, COTS hardware and software are strongly recommended. Progress Engineering systems utilize redundant, hot standby PCs running Windows 10 to provide:

  • Overview graphics with full control capability;
  • Secondary screen backups via HMI;
  • Historical trending and alarms;
  • Daily/monthly production reports;
  • Remote accessibility for managers from tablets and phones.

In the granite mining industry, Progress Engineering also has experience with control of stone saws and polishers.

Aggregate manufacturers often are in need of advanced control capabilities and machine upgrades, to improve quality, reduce energy use and maximize production up time. Call or email us to discuss how we can help you.
