Progress Engineering has extensive experience in applying controls in a broad array of manufacturing environments. Here are just a few applications we have completed:
Wire Shear
Our customer needed a custom control system to precisely cut a plastic coated, heavy wire mesh. The cut needed to occur right along the horizontal wire, without leaving “nubs” of vertical wire, but also without nicking the plastic coating. Our design included 5 fiber optic based, narrow beam photoeyes to locate the wire and a 3 phase motor/encoder combination, acting as a servo-motor to position the wire. The shear blade and blade rake angle are also controlled.
Machine Based Vision Systems
A manufacturer of medical supplies needed an integrator who could test whether a vision system could detect if their parts were being inserted properly into packaging. Our engineers set up a test jig and camera system in our office and proved the technology they chose would work.
Another manufacturer of plastic bottles asked if we could detect flaws in their bottles. We applied a PC based vision system with diffuse lighting to identify the problem containers.
Audio Based Product Sorting
A manufacturer of musical components needed to be able to sort their parts based on harmonic frequencies. We developed a “tone sorter” system that measures each products’ resonant frequency and then sorts and stores the products into containers based on 30 different frequency ranges.
Seafood Processing
A local lobster processor uses us to troubleshoot their foreign made “cookers” due to lack of OEM support.
Presses
Progress Engineering has provided controls on multiple press machine operations in several industries, controlling pressure, temperature and/or position for close tolerance parts manufacturing.
Curing Ovens
Temperature is a major component of many production processes and we have controlled them with a variety of controller types.
Thermal Oil Cooling
A Fortune 500 company wanted a robust system to accurately cool thermal oil. We provided a combination of oil flow and fan controls for efficient results.
Fuel Handling
